Having an impressive LinkedIn profile is highly important in today’s professional landscape. But simply listing your experience and skills isn’t enough to truly capture attention and drive results. That’s where the LinkedIn custom button comes in. This simple yet powerful addition can elevate your profile from a static online resume to a lead-generating, engagement-driving machine.

In this guide, we will walk you through setting up your LinkedIn custom button to leverage lead generation!

Setting Up Your LinkedIn Custom Button

Adding a custom CTA button is straightforward:

  1. Click the “Me” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
  2. Click “View Profile“.
  3. Click “Add custom button” in your introduction section.
  4. In the “Custom Button” pop-up window, select “Premium custom button“.
  5. Click “Select button” and select one of the options as your custom button.
  6. Add a link in the “URL” text box.
  7. Click Save and your custom button will be live.

The key to getting results with your LinkedIn custom button is to select compelling text that aligns with your goals. A clear, actionable call-to-action can encourage profile visitors to take the next step with you.

Some effective CTAs include:

  • Visit My Website“: To drive traffic to your online presence.
  • Download My Guide“: To capture leads with a free content offer.
  • Book a Consultation“: For service providers to book new clients.
  • View My Portfolio“: To showcase your work and capabilities.

The ideal CTA speaks directly to your target audience’s pain points or interests. It should make the value of clicking through inherently clear.

Adding your website to the contact info section is an excellent way to improve your online presence. Also it will direct people to your professional or personal site. This can be helpful for people looking to learn more about you or your business. It can be done on social media platforms, job websites, and other online profiles.

To add your website to the contact info section of your online profile, go to the edit mode. Locate the “Me” button in top right corner. Select it and go to “View Profile” to open your full profile.

After your profile loads, you need to find the “edit mode” which looks like a pencil icon.

The next step when the pop up opens is to scroll to the bottom and select “Edit contact info“. Once the page loads, scroll down until you see the website section, this is where you’ll add your links.

As you can see from the screenshot, I’ve already added some websites, but you can add multiple ones. Simply press the “Add website” button, choose the “Website URL” and select the “Website Type”. Once added, press save and it’s added to your profile.

Now, if you wonder where does it show on your profile? Well, your profile visitors will see all your added websites when they select the “Contact info” part of your website. It is in the same section where you would find someone’s email address.

Once they select the contact info button, they’ll see a pop-up with all of your links.

Now, what if you want to add a link that will be visible directly in your profile description? As you can probably tell, this type of a link will have a better CTR (Click-Through-Rate) than the previous one.

Direct link in profile description

If you want to have such a link in your LinkedIn’s Bio, you need to activate the “Creator Mode“. To enable it, once again, navigate to your full profile, and scroll until you see the “Resources” section. Your creator mode will probably be set to “off”, and we need to turn it on.

When you choose to enable creator mode, you will get access to some special tools and analytics. However, the best part is that you can add a custom link to your bio.

Once you have read everything in that pop-up, select the “Next” button. On the next page you’ll see which options you are eligible for. Choose the 5 topics that you want to add to your account, and select “Turn On“.

Available creator tools

According to LinkedIn’s documentation, if you see the “Learn more” option, you are currently not eligible to use this feature. Select this option and you will quickly see what are the conditions to use this feature.

On the other hand, if the feature is enabled for you, it’s time to add the link to your profile. Go to your full profile and select the edit icon (looks like a pencil icon). Scroll down to the bottom and you will see a new section as you can see on the image below.

Enter the link, link text (you can also use LinkedIn Emojis for an extra effect), press save and the link will be added to your bio.

Who has access to the LinkedIn Custom Button feature?

Currently, the ability to add custom CTA buttons to your LinkedIn profile is a Premium feature. Don’t worry though – you don’t need the most expensive Premium tier to access this functionality. Even the basic Career and Business Premium plans unlock custom buttons, along with a host of other useful tools like advanced search filters and InMail credits.

For professionals serious about leveraging LinkedIn for business growth, career advancement, or personal branding, the small monthly investment in Premium can certainly be worth it. Still, if you are unsure, we have a handy guide that breaks down if LinkedIn premium is worth it or not.
